Rites of Passage

This retreat is led by Aafke van Sprundel.

Feeling restless, longing for something to shift, but stuck? This rite of passage week might be just right for you.

In life we go through several stages that are marked by ages and the roles in the communities we are part of. We grow up from being a baby to becoming a toddler, from the free life of an adolescent to taking on responsibilities for our surroundings as an adult. Oftentimes we just enter the new phase without marking this important step within ourselves or our communities.

When you know and feel the old no longer suits your way of being, you might experience a certain type of anxiety, a need to traverse to a newer version of yourself. Perhaps it is time that you take on a new role in your family as your kids go to high school or even leave the house. Or maybe your work environment changes as you enter a more senior position. You may feel like a new way of expressing yourself would suit you better, or a new desire might be emerging such as taking part in community work or being closer to nature. All these could be signs you are about to enter a new phase for which this rite of passage could be the ignition.

Throughout times and especially honored and upheld by indigenous people around the world, rites of passages have helped people entering new phases.

This week you are guided to uncover, dive deep, and embrace a new stage of your life. You will go through the 3 steps that underly all rites of passages:

  • separation of the old

  • embracing the liminal stage (the term for the in-between)

  • integration as you prepare to go back home or to your next stage in life.

The liminal stage is the heart of the retreat. Although one should not talk about the contents of a rites of passage, as it loses its power, you will undertake 4 things:

  • story tellings and sharing

  • a challenge you take on

  • a vision setting

  • honoring of who you are by co-participants

Every activity is safe and doable for everyone. Amiglia is the perfect place for your rite of passage as it is in the middle of the natural world to enjoy.

The programme will consist of:

  • Spontaneous movement morning practice

  • Silent and guided meditations

  • Appreciative enquiry and journaling

  • Sharing of stories

  • Systemic work

  • Dream yoga

  • Creative expressions such as writing, drawing, singing, dancing

  • Hiking and enjoying the beauty of the place and of being together

Session hours:

  • 07:30 – 08:30

  • 10:00 – 12:00

  • 17:00 – 18:00

  • 20:00 – 21:30

Price:

The basic price is the price to stay at Amiglia as a guest.

Private room: €450/6 nights

Shared room: €330/6 nights

The donation suggestion for the program is €440. Aafke wants this retreat to be accessible for those who truly feel called to participate, regardless of their budget. She trusts that those who can, will contribute a larger share. To keep prices democratic, and because it is connecting us to each other, we each spend one hour a day preparing breakfast, doing cooking, dishes etc.

What outcome to expect:

During this retreat you will come to understand and appreciate yourself on a deeper level, while accepting the challenge to plunge into and showing the world a new unknown version of yourself that is already waiting to be discovered. Like a butterfly after its transformation cannot go back to being a caterpillar, you will leave Amiglia as an entirely being.
