Dear friends,
Hot, dry, and creative. That’s what Amiglia has been like this summer.
Hot
Just as everywhere in Europe, and especially in the South, it’s been hot, and we can’t help but adapt our rhythm. We are active in the morning, and in the afternoon we shut down. We stay inside, take naps in the shade, and surrender.
Sometimes we leave very early to go on a long walk through pristine nature. And we feel blessed by the reason we can actually handle all this: the nights are cool! At night, we open the shutters and the windows, and a cool breeze lulls us into a deep sleep.
Dry
Just as everywhere in Europe, and especially in the South, it’s been dry. We haven’t had a significant amount of rain for months. We see even big, old trees giving up and turning brown.
As in other places in Italy, we are being asked to reduce our use of tap water. It’s painful to see how our planet is suffering from the way we use its resources.
Amiglia chooses to go sustainable in its own way: this spring, we had a large rainwater tank built, collecting the rain from our biggest roof, and we now have two high-end dry toilets. For the vegetable garden, we use water from our well.
Creative
A week ago, we concluded the first edition of a Nature Reflecting retreat. It was a wonderful interweaving of Art, Meditation, and Inquiry — the first letters of AMIglia.
We explored self-inquiry through movement with Zoe, and learned new techniques with Esther. Our inner landscapes found expression in our creative explorations. We all agreed that Zoe and Esther’s work and energies made a wonderful combination.
Reflecting Nature is a retreat we want to offer again next year, perhaps even multiple times.
This fall, we have other inspiring retreats. Find them all here. If you can’t wait, you can also come sooner and discover a lazy rhythm of warm days and cool nights. Did we mention there’s also a river where you can refresh yourself? And, of course, the Mediterranean Sea is just one hour away by train.
