Hills or Mountains?

It’s a frequent discussion at Amiglia. Are we surrounded by hills or by mountains? People from the Netherlands or Belgium tend to see mountains, while our Italian neighbours reserve that word for the Alps or the Apennines.

In any case, when we go walking across our big hills or modest mountains, we often have a view of the very real big mountains: a long and impressive line of snow-capped peaks about 100 km away. A few days ago, one of our guests walked along a ridge where, looking one way, she could see the blue-white mountains, and looking the other way, she could see Amiglia.

Needless to say, Amiglia is situated in a walking paradise, especially for those who like to walk for hours without seeing another person.
